On the second Sunday of Advent, we light two candles on the wreath and we listen to John the Baptist, preaching, baptizing, and urging also us to prepare for the coming of Christ. The first reading from Isaiah is familiar to anyone who knows Handel’s Messiah, and the psalm includes the beloved line, “righteousness and peace have kissed each other.”
