In the Gospel of Mark, the first person healed by Jesus had “an unclean spirit.” So do we all; yet in baptism we receive instead the Holy Spirit. The second reading this Sunday is Paul’s interesting discussion about whether Christians could eat meat that had been first offered to gods or goddesses. Since nearly all meat available in Corinth at that time had been first offered in a pagan religious rite, Paul offers his advice in this dilemma.
