Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost (Lectionary 29A)

We invite you to worship with us at one of our two weekend liturgies. A prerecorded online sung Service of the Word is made available at https://vimeo.com/trinityworcester by 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays for home worship.

An in-person Holy Eucharist is held in the Trinity Nave at 10:00 a.m. Sundays with attendees wearing masks and following posted physical distancing guidelines. Up to six singers with masks will sing from the organ gallery during the liturgy. The assembly will not sing. We commune with the bread only, received directly from the Presiding Minister in mask and gloves.

Both liturgies are based on the appointed Sunday scripture readings. In light of the ongoing risk posed by the Coronavirus we invite you to make a responsible and healthy decision in experiencing God’s Word in the liturgy right for you and your family.

BIBLE READINGS, PSALM & SONG, & THEMES

Isaiah 45:1-7 An earthly ruler works God’s will

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 Thanksgiving for the church at Thessalonica

Matthew 22:15-22 A teaching about the emperor and God

Psalmody: Psalm 96:1-9 Ascribe to the Lord honor and power

Hymn of the Day: Hymn 841, Lift Every Voice and Sing, LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING

Christians around the world have differing opinions about how high their taxes should be. Yet most churches have taught that believers should support their government, at least when it is functioning honorably. Come to worship this Sunday, to hear Matthew’s words about allegiance to country and to God, and join with the community to pray for wisdom to be God’s people in our time and place.
