We are thrilled to announce the return and now permanent display of the King Gustav V Royal Antependium in the Nave of Trinity Lutheran Church. This extraordinary parament, gifted to First Lutheran Church, one of Trinity’s predecessor congregations, by H.M. King Gustav V of Sweden, holds a place of significance in our shared history and faith journey. Through the dedicated efforts of the Trinity’s 75th Anniversary Committee and the generous contributions of many members of our congregation, this remarkable piece has found its way back to us.
Crafted by the hands of royalty, the Royal Antependium is believed to be the only one of its kind in the United States, making it a truly unique treasure in our church’s possession. Hand-embroidered by His Majesty himself, this parament was originally intended as an altar cloth, a sacred adornment for the worship space. Now, after years of faithful service, its age and condition have necessitated permanent preservation. Yet, far from being relegated to obscurity, the Royal Antependium will now grace our Nave for all to behold and admire.
As we gaze upon this symbol of our heritage and faith, let us remember the legacy of those who came before us, whose dedication and devotion have shaped the story of Trinity Church. May the presence of the Royal Antependium in our midst serve as a reminder of the enduring bonds of community and the divine grace that sustains us on our spiritual journey.
We invite each member of our congregation to take a moment to pause and reflect on the significance of this moment. Let us give thanks for the blessings of our past, embrace the challenges of our present, and look forward with hope to the future that lies ahead. Together, let us continue to build upon the foundation laid by those who have gone before us, guided by faith, and united in love. The antependium will be dedicated during an upcoming Sunday 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist.
