ULS Seminary President Dr. Guy Erwin Guest Preacher and Adult Forum Leader this Sunday, June 9


The Rev. Dr. R. Guy Erwin, president of United Lutheran Seminary (Philadelphia & Gettysburg) and Ministerium of Pennsylvania Chair and Professor of Reformation Studies, will be the guest preacher at Trinity’s 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist on Sunday, June 9th. He will also lead a 9:00 a.m. Adult Forum entitled “The seminary’s role in the future of the ELCA.”  The 8:00 a.m. liturgy will be Morning Prayer led by Cantor Mark and a Coffee Hour in Dr. Erwin’s honor will be held in Jeppson Hall following the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist.

Prior to his call as President of United Lutheran Seminary, President Erwin served as the bishop of the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

President Erwin is the ELCA’s first gay, partnered bishop and the first openly gay male to serve in that office in the churches of the Lutheran World Federation. As an enrolled member of the Osage Nation, on whose reservation he was born in Oklahoma, he is also the first Native bishop in the ELCA. He holds a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Harvard University and a doctorate from Yale University.
